How we rank tutors

Tutors By City · Minneapolis is an independent directory of tutors and learning centers in Minneapolis–St. Paul. Every ranked list on this site is ordered by a merit score that payment cannot change.

What goes into the score

• Review quality (largest factor): average rating, adjusted so a few 5-star reviews don't outrank hundreds of 4.8s.
• Review volume: a small, diminishing bonus for more reviews.
• Verification: identity and credential checks, plus a recent background check.
• Responsiveness: how quickly the tutor typically replies to families.
• Free consultation: a small bonus for offering one.
• Distance: when you search by zip code, closer tutors rank higher. Online tutors are always included.

What does not affect rank

Subscription plans, sponsored placements and advertising spend do not affect organic rank. Sponsored listings appear in separate slots labeled "Sponsored". "Featured" badges indicate a paid profile upgrade, not a ranking.
